New to Pheasant hunting can you clerify the.......
« on: August 30, 2011, 12:08:07 AM »
so I'm new to washington an stationed here in the navy, i have downloaded the hunting regulations for upland pheasant hunting in western washington and trying to understand them is it a type'o where it says quoted from the online pamphlet "Western Washington pheasant hunters must choose to hunt on either odd numbered or even-numbered weekend days from 8:00-10:00 a.m. at all units of Lake Terrell, Tennant Lake, Snoqualmie, Skagit, Skookumchuck, and Scatter Creek Wildlife Areas, and all areas on Whidbey Island and the Dungeness Recreation Area. You must indicate your choice when purchasing your Western Washington Pheasant License. All hunters may hunt these sites between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., regardless of their choice." and is there weekdays you can hunt at certain hunt sites, if so where do i find this out at because of my work schedule. The part i have trouble understand is where it gives the two different times, is that a type'o or is the 8am to 10am only at ones listed in the above an all others are from 10am-4pm, thank you for any info and i greatly appreciate it.

So say Saturday is the 1st (odd) and Sunday is the 2nd (even). If you choose odd days, you can hunt at the 8am start time and hunt all day till 4pm on Saturday. If you had chosen even days, you cannot hunt until 10am on Saturday but hunt until 4pm like everyone else. This odd/even thing only applies on weekends. Almost all the sites are open during the weekday, everyone can go at the 8am start time but again have to end at 4pm. Typically they release birds wed, sat, sun. Sometimes they do it the night prior.

They break it up the odd and even mornings on weekends in the hopes that the sites are not overwhelmed with hunters.

Site that are not mentioned, you can go at 8am on both even and odd days, because they are typically smaller, draw less crowds and also they release less birds.

Did you download the upland/waterfowl pamphlet? If you go to WDFW, hunting, select species (upland, pheasant) there is another pamphlet that shows all the release sites on the west and east side.

If you got more questions, PM me, I am right in your area and can help you out this year. Welcome to the state and site.

No worries, sometimes you need to have a Doctorate just to understand our regs. Some of the other states are so clear and concise on what is what, they use language that everyone can understand.

Any chance you can explain/inform why you can hunt archery, muzzleloader or rifle, but not all 3?  Even California isn't that nutty!

Asking or answering that question that can get a lot of people heated and heated answers. Search the site and you will find the answers most likely.

We do have the multiseason permit, which allows you to hunt during all three. But you have to apply early in the year, and if you get it, it is another 150 I believe.
